Lufthansa canceled a flight from Hyderabad to Frankfurt after the Boeing 787-9 aircraft had to abort its takeoff. The incident, which occurred on May 21, involved the aircraft registered as D-ABPD. During the takeoff roll at Hyderabad Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, the pilots decided to abandon the attempt due to an unspecified issue. This led to hard braking and resulted in deflated tires.

A Lufthansa spokesperson confirmed that "some of the tires deflated, which is standard [occurrence] in such cases." The aircraft then taxied off the runway and stopped on a taxiway. Passengers were evacuated via air stairs provided by the airport. All 196 passengers onboard were reported safe.

Following this incident, the affected Boeing 787-9 remained in Hyderabad with no planned departures immediately after. However, another Boeing 787-9 registered as D-ABPA was en route from Frankfurt to operate flight LH753 scheduled for May 22.

The aircraft involved first flew on July 26, 2019, and has since accumulated significant flight hours and cycles according to ch-aviation records. Lufthansa's fleet includes four other Boeing 787-9s powered by GE Aerospace GEnx engines.

In addition to this event, Lufthansa plans several weekly flights between India and Germany throughout May. Data indicates eight daily flights from India to German hubs like Frankfurt or Munich are scheduled each Wednesday.

Hyderabad is one of five Indian cities served by Lufthansa alongside Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, and Mumbai. Most routes are operated daily except for some specific routes that have reduced frequency.
