Allegiant Air has announced a new intra-state route, adding to its domestic operations across 42 US states. The airline will begin flights between Knoxville and Memphis in Tennessee, starting September 4. This marks Allegiant's first flights within Tennessee, the 36th-largest state by geographic area.
Previously, Allegiant had operated intra-state services in Nevada, California, and Texas. In Tennessee, flights will occur twice weekly using the A320 aircraft. The flight schedule allows for a long weekend trip but includes late arrivals into Knoxville at 23:08.
The last nonstop service between Knoxville and Memphis was operated by Delta in 2013 when it closed its Memphis hub. Data from the US Department of Transportation indicates that from 1990 to 2013, about 2.2 million passengers flew between these cities.
