KLM A321neos | Official Website

KLM, the Dutch airline, operates a fleet of 115 aircraft primarily composed of Boeing jets and a smaller number from Airbus. Among these are its new Airbus A321neo single-aisle jets, with the first delivery received in August 2024. KLM currently has seven A321neos and plans to expand this fleet in the coming months.

According to Cirium's data for May, KLM is deploying its A321neo fleet on routes to 15 European destinations from its hub at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. Despite the aircraft's range capability of up to 4,000 nautical miles (7,400 km), all current routes remain within Europe. The longest route is under 2,200 km.

The A321neo will serve KLM's short and medium-haul network with 466 round-trip flights scheduled this month, providing over 105,000 seats each way. London Heathrow and Rome Fiumicino are set to receive the highest number of frequencies with three daily departures each.

"Other high-frequency routes include a double-daily A321neo service to Lisbon," while Barcelona and Budapest will see daily flights. Billund and Nice have the fewest services this month with only three scheduled flights each.

The longest route operated by KLM’s A321neo is Athens at 1,179 NM (2,183 km), taking over three hours of flight time. Lisbon (1,846 km) and Madrid (1,461 km) follow as longer connections within Europe. The shortest connection is London Heathrow at just 372 km.

KLM’s A321neos feature Airbus' Airspace cabins capable of seating up to 227 passengers in an all-economy configuration. These cabins offer increased baggage capacity and amenities like ambient lighting and quieter environments.

The EuroBiz front cabin offers enhanced comfort with blocked middle seats for privacy alongside premium fare perks such as SkyPriority services access.

KLM began operating the A321neo in September after receiving its first aircraft in August last year. It plans further expansion with six more deliveries expected by year-end. The carrier aims for a total of up to 33 airframes over several years as part of its long-term strategy involving Airbus models for both narrowbody and long-haul fleets.

The decision to adopt the Airbus A321neo aligns with KLM's sustainability goals: "cleaner, quieter, more economical." This move also includes phasing out older Boeing widebodies in favor of twin-aisle Airbus jets like the A350.

Transavia France already operates several A320neos within the Air France-KLM Group following their first delivery in December 2023; however due supply chain issues delays are anticipated affecting future deliveries planned between now through early next decade."
