Hoofddorp, 22 mei 2025 - Federal Express Corporation (FedEx), in samenwerking met de Financial Times, heeft een lijst gepubliceerd genaamd Champions of Business. Deze lijst belicht innovatieve mkb-bedrijven die volgens Europese voetbalclubs een grote rol zullen spelen in de toekomst van de sport. De informatie is gebaseerd op een enquête onder 103 professionele voetbalclubs in Europa, uitgevoerd begin 2025.

Opmerkelijk is dat drie Nederlandse bedrijven zijn opgenomen op deze lijst:

- SGL uit Waddinxveen ontwikkelt technologie om gras optimaal te onderhouden.

Uit het onderzoek blijkt dat 85% van de Europese clubs verwacht binnen drie jaar minstens 30% van hun leveranciers uit het mkb te laten bestaan. Dit benadrukt het belang van samenwerking met kleinere bedrijven voor innovatie, duurzaamheid en flexibiliteit.

“Het is een grote eer om erkend te worden als een van Europa’s meest waardevolle mkb’s in de voetbalwereld,” zegt Frank van Beusekom, Chief Commercial Officer bij SGL. “Voetbal vraagt om topprestaties, en een perfecte grasmat is daarin cruciaal. Met onze technologie en graskennis helpen we clubs wereldwijd om datagedreven het ideale grasgroeiklimaat te creëren. Dat resulteert in speelvelden van topkwaliteit, vermindert risico’s op blessures en afgelastingen en stelt spelers in staat het maximale uit zichzelf te halen. Dat juist de clubs deze impact erkennen, maakt het extra bijzonder.”

Het Champion of Business-overzicht maakt deel uit van een bredere campagne van FedEx waarin ook voetbalicoon Andrés Iniesta betrokken is. FedEx wil hiermee de kracht van het mkb onderstrepen en hun rol in modern voetbal zichtbaar maken.
