Airlines are making adjustments to their flight schedules as they prepare for the busy summer months. This month, six airlines will remove eight routes from their schedules, according to aviation analytics firm Cirium.

Some of these routes are not being completely suspended. They are either being cut due to low demand, poor profitability, operational restrictions, or simply ending as scheduled because they were seasonal. In one instance, a route is transitioning to a partner airline—Lufthansa's route is moving to Discover Airlines.

The affected routes include United Airlines' Newark to Tenerife South flights and Norse Atlantic's Miami connections to Oslo and Berlin. Lufthansa will switch its Minneapolis-Frankfurt service over to Discover Airlines. Other cuts involve KLM Royal Dutch Airlines' Miami-Amsterdam route and Aer Lingus' Las Vegas-Dublin connection. American Airlines is also suspending its Miami-Paris Charles de Gaulle service due to Boeing 787 delivery delays.

United Airlines launched its Newark-Tenerife route in June 2022 with thrice-weekly flights during the summer season. The airline switched this service to winter in 2024 but has not yet scheduled it for the upcoming winter season of 2025/2026. According to the US Department of Transport, loads on this route averaged 67% in 2024.

Norse Atlantic Airways is reducing operations at its Miami base by cutting flights to Oslo and Berlin after poor load performance in 2024. The Miami-Oslo service was introduced in September 2023 and operated year-round, while the Berlin connection was winter seasonal since December 2023.

Lufthansa ended its Minneapolis-Frankfurt flights on April 30 due to underperformance with an average load factor of just 76% last year. Discover Airlines will now operate this route on a summer seasonal basis.
