Frontier Airlines is expanding its network by adding five new routes from Atlanta and San Juan. The budget airline has launched three routes from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and two from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in Puerto Rico.

The announcement comes shortly after the airline revealed plans to reduce capacity due to "economic uncertainty." On May 4, 2025, Frontier announced it would cut capacity on certain days to regain profitability.

The newly launched routes were previously announced earlier this year. Frontier inaugurated the route between Atlanta (ATL) and Oklahoma City’s Will Rogers World Airport (OKC) on May 22, 2025. This route will have three weekly flights using Airbus A321neos. Delta Air Lines also operates on this route.

On May 23, 2025, Frontier started operating a route between Atlanta (ATL) and Kansas City International Airport (MCI), offering three weekly flights with both Airbus A321 and A320 aircraft. Southwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines are competitors on this route.

On May 24, 2025, Frontier will begin a once-weekly service between Atlanta (ATL) and Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA) in Aruba with its Airbus A320-200 aircraft. This new route will compete directly with Delta Air Lines. Frontier is increasing its departures from the Atlanta hub by 40% compared to last year.

From Puerto Rico, Frontier launched two new routes this week. On May 22, 2025, the airline began service between SJU and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), operating with Airbus A321neo aircraft. United Airlines also serves this corridor.

"On May 24, 2025, Frontier will launch its route between Aguadilla’s Rafael Hernández Airport (BQN) and Miami International Airport (MIA), operating the service with its Airbus A320 aircraft," according to Flightradar24.com. The flight is scheduled to depart at 7:28 PM local time in Puerto Rico and arrive at approximately 10:10 PM local time in Miami. Frontier is the only carrier offering flights between these destinations.

Frontier Airlines operates an all-Airbus fleet consisting of 164 aircraft with an average age of 6.4 years as per ch-aviation data. The airline awaits delivery of additional A321neo and A320neo aircraft.

In recent months, Frontier has been balancing new route launches with capacity cuts due to "economic uncertainty." In the first quarter of 2025, the airline reported a net loss of $43 million compared to a $26 million loss during the same period last year. This was attributed to decreased travel demand influenced by economic policies under the Trump administration.

To address profitability issues, Frontier has focused on optimizing routes and reducing unprofitable flights during non-peak days. Following major reductions announced in December 2024, further cuts were implemented on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays through mid-November.

Additionally, reports indicate that Frontier has suspended two domestic routes for July and August 2025 after gradually reducing flight frequencies on these routes connecting Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) with Las Vegas International Airport (LAS), as well as Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) with Palm Beach International Airport (PBI).
