An Air Canada pilot recently expressed frustration over air traffic controller (ATC) shortages, which have led to delays and cancellations at Vancouver International Airport and other airports in Canada. These issues have impacted airline schedules, including those of Air Canada and smaller airlines, causing inconvenience for passengers and crews.
The pilot shared his concerns during a flight from Vancouver to Montreal, where passengers experienced a 50-minute delay. A CBC reporter on the flight captured the pilot's message highlighting how these delays affect both the airline and its passengers financially. "It’s very annoying, it costs the company a lot of money, it costs business people a lot of money," he said. He also suggested that passengers write to their MPs to address the issue.
Nav Canada, which operates Canada's air navigation system, acknowledged resource constraints affecting flights at Vancouver Airport on May 23 but noted that traffic flow had returned to normal levels by the following day. Similar statements were made on April 16 amid ongoing delays.
