United Airlines has expanded its network to include Senegal, marking the West African nation as its fifth African destination alongside Ghana, Morocco, Nigeria, and South Africa. The airline inaugurated flights from Washington Dulles to Dakar on May 23. This new service is part of ten routes launched by United from Dulles within a 48-hour window, including flights to Nice and Venice.

Using Boeing 767-300ER aircraft configured with 203 seats, United operates the Dakar route three times weekly throughout the year. Despite being United’s shortest African route from Virginia, with just 11,000 local passengers annually compared to New York City’s 50,000 and Montreal’s 33,000 for Dakar services, it represents the first nonstop connection between Washington Dulles and Dakar.

In Southern Europe, U.S.-Italy travel remains popular as three airlines introduced seven new routes between May 21 and May 23. Delta Air Lines commenced operations from New York JFK to Catania—a market previously unserved by U.S. carriers—and introduced flights from Atlanta to Naples and Boston to Milan. Additionally, Delta reinstated service from Minneapolis to Rome.

United Airlines also added Newark-Palermo flights and initiated daily service from Washington Dulles to Venice. American Airlines began daily Philadelphia-Milan flights using Boeing 787-8 aircraft.

JetBlue Airways launched two European routes on May 22: Boston-Madrid and Boston-Edinburgh. These additions bring JetBlue's European airport total to seven across five countries. The Madrid route marks JetBlue's entry into Spain using Airbus A321LRs configured for premium travel.

Air France resumed Paris CDG-Riyadh service on May 19 after a hiatus since January 2019. Now operating five times weekly with Airbus A350-900s instead of the previous A330-200s, this move targets high-yield business travelers in Riyadh—a significant Middle Eastern market for Paris CDG due to high premium traffic levels.

SkyTeam member SAS reintroduced Copenhagen-Seattle flights on May 21 after a sixteen-year absence. Meanwhile, Delta Air Lines inaugurated its first Minneapolis-Copenhagen flight on May 22.

Pegasus Airlines expanded its Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen offerings by adding Cluj-Napoca on May 20 and Algiers on May 23—routes that complement existing services like Atyrau launched earlier in May.

British Airways EuroFlyer began thrice-weekly operations from London Gatwick to Salerno near Italy’s Amalfi Coast on May 22—marking it as the third London carrier serving Salerno alongside easyJet and Ryanair.

Frontier Airlines returned to Spokane International Airport starting a thrice-weekly Denver-Spokane service using various Airbus models beginning May 20—its return after withdrawing in early 2022 now sees it join United Airlines' triple-daily frequency alongside Southwest’s sixteen weekly flights connecting Denver-Spokane markets.
