Marie Owens Thomsen Senior Vice President Sustainability & Chief Economist | International Air Transport Association - IATA

Sheldon Hee has been appointed as the Regional Vice President for Asia-Pacific by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). With over 25 years in the airline industry, Hee brings a wealth of experience from his previous roles at Singapore Airlines across various countries including Singapore, Japan, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Most recently, he served as Vice President for Partnerships and International Relations at Singapore Airlines.

Hee expressed his enthusiasm about his new role by stating, “Having spent my professional life in an airline, I am humbled and privileged to continue contributing at an industry level by leading IATA’s activities in Asia-Pacific. The region is vast and diverse, with states at different stages of aviation development. I see significant opportunity for the stakeholders across the region to work together to achieve the region’s potential. Together with the well-established IATA team, I look forward to working with our member airlines, governments and partners across the region to support the safe, efficient, and sustainable growth of an industry that is a catalyst for economic and social development.”

The Asia-Pacific region is projected to be a leader in passenger demand growth over the next two decades. In 2024 alone, it accounted for one-third of global passenger traffic based on revenue passenger kilometers (RPK), with expectations to contribute more than half of global traffic in upcoming years.
