Spirit Airlines has expanded its operations at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW), offering a record number of nonstop itineraries. The airline, which provides flights to over 60 destinations in the US and abroad, recently emerged from bankruptcy with new investments.

The proposed merger with JetBlue was canceled. In February 2025, Spirit issued $840 million in secured debt to bondholders, received $350 million in new equity investment, and equitized $795 million of funded debt.

2. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL): Spirit operates 83 monthly round trips on this route using Airbus jets. ATL is known as the world's busiest airport, serving over 100 million passengers annually.

3. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL): With 81 monthly round trips, Spirit offers direct flights using Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft. FLL serves over 36 million passengers each year.

4. Harry Reid International Airport (LAS): This route sees 60 monthly round trips with flights typically lasting between three and four hours aboard Airbus A320neo or A321 aircraft.

5. New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA): With 56 monthly round trips, this route features flights on an Airbus A321neo and operates from Terminal A at LGA.

Spirit Airlines' CEO Ted Christie leads the ultra-low-cost carrier that was founded in 1983. The airline's loyalty program is called Free Spirit.
