Finnair announced that industrial action by the Finnish Aviation Union at Helsinki Airport will cause extensive disruptions to its flight operations on June 4. The announcement was made on X.

According to Finnair, the Finnish Aviation Union (IAU) has declared industrial action at Helsinki Airport scheduled for June 4, resulting in significant operational challenges for the airline. The strike affects essential ground services such as baggage handling, aircraft towing, and refueling—services that Finnair depends on to maintain daily operations. Customers are advised to monitor their flight status and consider rebooking options provided by the airline.

As reported by Yle News, the industrial action is part of coordinated demonstrations against the Finnish government’s labor market reforms, involving multiple unions. The IAU’s participation directly affects airport logistics, and Helsinki Airport is expected to operate with severely limited ground crew capacity. This disruption will impact not only Finnair but also broader airport operations throughout the day.

According to Simple Flying, Finnair has proactively cancelled over 90 flights due to the industrial action and initiated rebooking and refund processes for affected passengers. The airline is prioritizing long-haul and connecting services where feasible and has notified customers through SMS, email, and mobile app alerts. Finnair has also offered flexible travel date changes at no extra cost to minimize passenger inconvenience.

Finnair is the national carrier of Finland, founded in 1923 and headquartered in Vantaa, with Helsinki Airport serving as its primary hub. The airline operates flights to over 100 destinations in Europe, Asia, and North America and is a member of the Oneworld alliance. Known for its strategic Arctic route connecting Europe and Asia, Finnair is among the oldest continuously operating airlines in the world.
