Between June 28 and October 25, Air New Zealand will operate select services on three routes with the larger Airbus A321 aircraft. This change will add over 36,000 seats to the network during a period of high seasonal demand.

This initiative is the airline's second effort to enhance inter-island connectivity in less than a week. It follows the launch of Air New Zealand's new jet service between Hamilton and Christchurch last week. These expansions are part of Air New Zealand's ongoing strategy to provide more options and better connectivity for customers across Aotearoa.

Air New Zealand Chief Commercial Officer Jeremy O'Brien expressed enthusiasm about offering additional seats during the busy winter season. "Whether they're heading back to university, to a special event, or to the slopes this winter, these seats will mean more choice and opportunity to fly and more flexibility to plan travel around the moments that matter."

O'Brien emphasized that adding flights is also about supporting regional communities. "We're committed to building connectivity - supporting communities, tourism and trade – so more New Zealanders can thrive. That's a responsibility we carry with pride. Every seat we add is an investment in New Zealand's future."

He further stated that the airline aims for long-term, sustainable growth benefiting the entire country. "Whether it's getting visitors to Central Otago's ski fields, students to Dunedin's lecture theatres, or whānau home to Christchurch, we're proud to play our part in connecting people and place."

The schedule changes include 616 upgrades from A320 to A321neo aircraft and 37 new flights added. The AKL-DUD flights are being upgraded specifically for key student movement dates and special events like the All Blacks game in Dunedin on July 5 and Big Sing from August 28-30.
