Spirit Airlines is set to introduce three new routes this summer, according to a report by Ishrion Aviation on Bluesky. Simple Flying confirmed with Spirit that these flights will begin in August as part of the airline's network expansion.

Starting August 13, Spirit will operate daily flights between Detroit and Orange County. The following day, it will launch thrice-weekly service between Reno and San Diego, and twice-weekly flights from Minneapolis to Myrtle Beach. Additionally, Spirit will resume its seasonal Atlantic City-Miami route on August 13.

Spirit faces competition from Delta Air Lines on the Detroit-Orange County route and Southwest Airlines between Reno and San Diego. Delta also operates a summer-only service from Minneapolis to Myrtle Beach that ends just before Spirit's begins.

Delta uses Boeing 757-200s with more amenities for the Detroit-Orange County route, making them more expensive than Spirit's A320s. In contrast, Southwest offers multiple daily flights between Reno and San Diego compared to Spirit's thrice-weekly schedule.

Since exiting Chapter 11 bankruptcy in March after financial struggles exacerbated by the pandemic, Spirit has been restructuring its network. This includes adding over 30 new routes while cutting unprofitable ones. The airline aims to focus on routes with limited competition as it adapts to current passenger trends favoring premium carriers.

Onboard changes at Spirit include revamped fare classes like "Go Savvy" and "Go Comfy," offering bundled services such as complimentary seat selection, baggage options, snacks, beverages, priority boarding, and extra-legroom or blocked middle seats. The "Go Big" fare now includes free bags, WiFi, snacks, drinks, priority check-in and boarding without change or cancellation fees.
