Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), the largest hub for American Airlines, is undergoing significant expansion to accommodate its growing passenger numbers. The airport served over 80 million passengers in 2023 and aims to surpass 100 million by 2030. As part of its expansion, DFW plans to introduce new dining and retail options, including Texas favorites and first-time airport locations.

The airport will soon feature Mesero, known for Mexican-American fusion cuisine, marking its first airport-based location. Additionally, DFW will host the first 24-hour Chick-fil-A at a major US airport, except on Sundays when it remains closed. Other notable additions include Raising Cane's, Salad and Go, Whataburger, Brewed Coffee, Olivella's Pizzeria, La La Land Kind Café, Velvet Taco, Mozart's Bakehouse, Lone Chimney Mercantile (a souvenir shop), Peach Cobbler Factory, Ciao & Go, Nekter Juice Bar, Flyer’s Market, Piada Italian Street Food, Bluebonnet Exchange and Sundance Travel Essentials.

In May 2024 and May 2025 respectively—DFW issued a request for proposals for new retail and dining locations across all terminals and announced the approval of 20 new concessions spread throughout existing terminals. These developments are part of DFW Forward—a $12 billion capital plan aimed at enhancing customer experience through terminal upgrades and expansions.

Sean Donohue is the CEO of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

DFW ranks as the second-busiest US airport according to OAG's May 2024 data with 4.51 million departing seats—trailing Atlanta but ahead of Chicago O'Hare. It boasts flights to around 255 destinations worldwide via seven runways—the most globally after Chicago O'Hare.

Expansion includes adding gates in Terminals A and C alongside constructing Terminal F—a dedicated American Airlines terminal expected by phase one completion in 2027—with increased space for widebody aircraft operations like Boeing models utilized by American Airlines' fleet.

Though airports often impose agreements limiting vendor pricing above typical rates outside their premises—airport food costs remain high due primarily to operational expenses like security logistics or staff turnover issues impacting profitability margins negatively compared against non-airport environments.
