The integration of ITA Airways into the Lufthansa Group marks a significant development in European commercial aviation. This transition follows Lufthansa's acquisition of a stake in the Italian airline, making ITA Airways the fifth network operator within the group, alongside Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa itself, and SWISS.

As part of this integration, efforts are underway to harmonize loyalty benefits for members of both airlines. ITA Airways is set to join the Star Alliance in 2026; however, benefits are already being introduced. According to a statement from the Lufthansa Group, starting July 1st, loyalty benefits will be harmonized for status holders of ITA Airways and Lufthansa.

Lufthansa has emphasized that this expansion will enhance its lounge network, particularly at ITA Airways' hub airports in Italy. Frequent Traveler status holders will gain new privileges starting July 1st, while Senators and HON Circle Members have had access since March. Dieter Vranckx, CCO of the Lufthansa Group stated: "The harmonization of our Frequent Traveler status benefits across the Lufthansa Group marks a significant step for our most loyal guests. It underlines our commitment to a first-class and seamless travel experience."

Beyond increased lounge access, additional benefits include priority boarding, fast lane access, accelerated baggage handling, and free seat reservations for Senators and HON Circle Members on ITA Airways flights. All Lufthansa Group status passengers flying with ITA Airways will benefit from priority check-in, additional baggage allowance, and waiting list priority.

This collaboration is not limited to passenger services; it extends to operational aspects as well. Since February 2025, "Miles & More members [have been] able to earn and redeem miles on all ITA Airways flights," according to previous announcements by Lufthansa.

ITA Airways has also shifted its operations at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and Munich Airport (MUC) to share space with Lufthansa terminals for better connectivity between flights.
