Delta Air Lines has announced plans to introduce new international routes from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The airline will begin flights from Seattle to Rome on May 6, 2026, followed by a route to Barcelona on May 7, 2026. This move comes shortly after Alaska Airlines revealed its own nonstop service from Seattle to Rome, marking its first branded long-haul operation.

Alaska Airlines holds a significant market share in Seattle and recently acquired Hawaiian Airlines. This acquisition allows Alaska to expand its intercontinental routes using widebody aircraft previously ordered by Hawaiian. In response, Delta is intensifying its focus on Seattle as a key hub.

Delta's new routes will be operated with Airbus A330-900 aircraft, configured with various seating options including DeltaOne suites and Premium Select seats. These additions will bring the total number of European destinations served by Delta from Seattle to five.

Currently, Delta operates year-round flights from Seattle to London-Heathrow, Paris, and Amsterdam with the A330-900. The expansion of services aims to maintain competitiveness against Alaska Airlines' growing international network.

As part of broader changes at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Delta plans to shift all transpacific routes to Airbus A350-900 aircraft and open two new lounges within the airport. These developments reflect Delta's substantial investment in establishing Seattle as a global hub amidst increasing competition from Alaska Airlines.
