Qatar Airways is set to operate its longest scheduled non-stop route in 2025 between Doha and Auckland. The route spans an average one-way distance of 9,011 nautical miles (16,688 kilometers), making it one of the longest regularly operated commercial flights worldwide. Depending on the season, Qatar Airways will use either the Airbus A350-1000 or the Boeing 777-200LR for this service.

Cirium, an aviation analytics company, reports that Qatar Airways plans to conduct 219 A350 flights on this route each way this year, providing over 71,000 seats outbound and inbound. For the northern summer season from June through late October, the airline will temporarily switch to the Boeing 777-200LR variant for 147 flights each way, offering nearly 40,000 seats in both directions.

The Doha-Auckland service was initially launched in December 2017 as the world's longest commercial flight but was suspended during the pandemic. It briefly operated via Brisbane and Adelaide before resuming direct service in 2023. During the global health crisis, a limited operation with a stopover in Adelaide was introduced alongside a trans-Tasman fifth freedom route to Auckland.

In addition to its ultra-long-haul service to Auckland, Qatar Airways operates three routes to the United States exceeding 8,000 nautical miles: Doha-Los Angeles (8,301 NM), Doha-San Francisco (8,084 NM), and Doha-Houston (8,046 NM). These routes are served by Airbus A350-1000 aircraft and collectively provide more than one million seats annually across both directions.

The airline's expansion into South America includes a significant long-distance route connecting Doha with São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport at approximately 7,368 nautical miles. This route has been part of Qatar Airways' network since June 2010 and supports passenger and cargo traffic across the South Atlantic.

Qatar Airways also maintains extensive services to Australia with routes like Doha-Sydney (7,686 NM) using Airbus A380 aircraft. The airline plans over 700 flights each way on its Brisbane corridor this year after introducing it during the pandemic as connectivity for New Zealand when direct flights were paused.

Qatar Airways continues its global growth strategy with a focus on long-range connectivity and fleet investment. As of June 2025, it operates 266 aircraft with another 196 on order. The airline has placed a historic widebody order for Boeing jets including models like the Boeing 777X and Dreamliner variants.

The airline holds various stakes in global carriers such as International Airlines Group (IAG), LATAM Airlines Group, Cathay Pacific among others. It also owns shares in infrastructure projects like Rwanda’s Bugesera International Airport and has recently acquired approval for a minority stake in Virgin Australia from the Australian government.
