Delta Air Lines is actively working to restore operations and assist customers affected by severe storms at its Atlanta hub. The storm on Friday night led to hundreds of system cancellations for Saturday, with more delays and cancellations expected as the airline works to reset aircraft and reposition flight crews safely.

The airline advises customers to use the Fly Delta app for the latest flight information and rebooking options. Thunderstorms brought rain, lightning, hail, and hazardous winds, causing an evacuation and temporary power loss at the ATL air traffic control tower. Over 100 aircraft required inspections due to hail damage, which were completed by Saturday morning.

Erik Snell, Delta’s Chief Customer Experience Officer, expressed apologies in a message to customers: "You expect and deserve the industry-leading reliability and service that Delta people have long worked to deliver. That’s why, when we fall short, we work around the clock to make it right."

The storm caused significant disruptions at Delta's largest hub where approximately 900 flights operate daily. It resulted in numerous cancellations, diversions, and delays across their entire system. Snell added: "On behalf of Delta’s 100,000 people who are working to restore our operation to its hallmark reliability, I am sorry for the inconvenience and uncertainty this event has caused."

By early morning after the storm, many aircraft had returned to service following thorough overnight inspections by Delta's maintenance team. Operations teams are working diligently to get crews back on schedule while other staff members care for passengers throughout their journeys.

Delta encourages affected travelers to continue using the Fly Delta app or visit delta.com for updates and flexible booking options. The company remains committed to supporting passengers through this disruption.
