Federal Express Corporation, commonly known as FedEx, is advancing inclusive entrepreneurship in India through its collaboration with United Way Mumbai's initiative, Saksham. Originally focused on supporting women entrepreneurs from challenging backgrounds, the program has expanded to assist individuals across various gender identities and economic circumstances.

Suvendu Choudhury, vice president of India operations and planning and engineering at FedEx for the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent, and Africa stated: “At FedEx, we’re committed to creating spaces where everyone has the chance to grow, contribute, and be seen for who they truly are. That’s what building a better tomorrow looks like—for our communities and for our company.”

Now in its fourth year, Saksham supports equal opportunities by assisting thousands of women small business owners and over 160 individuals from diverse communities. The initiative provides vocational training; in 2025 alone, 60 individuals enrolled with more than 40 receiving certification to pursue independent income opportunities. United Way Mumbai's 2024 impact assessment revealed that 90% of beneficiaries are meaningfully engaged compared to just 45% before joining the program.

Ronny, a Saksham beneficiary and aspiring baker shared: “The Saksham training gave me confidence and direction. From learning to bake to earning my first income, I now see a future where my identity is my strength, not a barrier.” Another beneficiary Nadim said: “Escaping a high-risk life felt impossible—until Saksham gave me a second chance. Today, I earn with dignity through makeup artistry and finally feel safe, seen, and empowered.”

Saksham provides comprehensive support beyond skills training including mobilization from high-need communities; scholarships for vocational training in trades like baking and tailoring; personality development sessions; entrepreneurship training; capacity-building support; and distribution of occupational toolkits.

FedEx and United Way Mumbai aim to foster dignity, opportunity, and economic resilience through Saksham while contributing to an equitable Bharat.
