Nigeria's Air Peace is set to commence flights to London Heathrow, marking its entry into Europe's busiest airport. Although tickets are not yet available for booking, the airline has listed flights from Abuja on its platform. Due to limited slots at Heathrow, Air Peace will also initiate flights from Abuja to London Gatwick Airport, complementing its existing Gatwick-Lagos service that began in March 2024.

In 2024, the London-Abuja route saw 140,000 round-trip passengers, with most flying via Heathrow. The route is notable for high yields, driven by strong demand for premium cabins and government travel. The average fare for all passengers and cabins between Heathrow and Abuja was $1,161 each way.

Air Peace's inaugural flight to Heathrow is scheduled for October 26 and will operate three times weekly using a Boeing 777-200ER. This new service will join British Airways' daily first-class-equipped service on the same route. Both airlines offer overnight flights back to Abuja.

Currently, only Abuja is listed as a destination on Air Peace's booking engine when selecting Heathrow. This could change once tickets go on sale. Unlike Lagos, connecting flights through Abuja are more convenient due to its central location.

Air Peace has long sought access to Heathrow but faced challenges securing slots at the congested airport. Slot allocation decisions are made by Airport Coordination Limited, an independent body, not the UK government as previously suggested by Air Peace's social media posts.

Despite securing some slots at Heathrow, Air Peace will add Gatwick-Abuja flights starting October 28 due to limited availability at Heathrow. This decision follows similar moves by other airlines like Kenya Airways and Royal Air Maroc who have expanded their services in the UK.

The new Gatwick service mirrors the schedule of the planned Heathrow operations. In 2024, only 7,000 people traveled indirectly between Abuja and Gatwick primarily via Turkish Airlines and Royal Air Maroc connections. However, Air Peace aims to increase traffic volume significantly as it did with its Lagos-Gatwick route.
