Investigators are examining the engine fuel control switches of an Air India Boeing 787-8 following a crash that resulted in 241 fatalities onboard and 29 on the ground. The accident, which occurred near Ahmedabad International Airport, was the first hull loss of a 787 in service history. The Indian Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has submitted its preliminary report to the Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation, with publication expected on July 11.

Sources have indicated that the investigation focuses on the position of these switches. Both flight data recorder (FDR) and cockpit voice recorder (CVR) were recovered shortly after the crash. Reuters reported that further details might take longer to analyze thoroughly.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is assisting with the investigation, alongside UK authorities who offered help due to UK citizens being onboard. According to ICAO Annex 13, a preliminary report is typically expected within 30 days post-accident.

The AAIB's preliminary report has been submitted, and while specific details remain undisclosed, it confirms data extraction from recorders began on June 24. Following this incident, inspections of Air India's fleet revealed no major safety concerns by June 17.

Air India’s aircraft was operating flight AI171 to London Gatwick when it crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad on June 12. Out of those onboard, only one survived.
