In Oregon, a retired Boeing 727-200 has been transformed into a private residence by Bruce Campbell, a retired electrical engineer with a passion for aviation. The aircraft, originally part of Olympic Airways' fleet, was purchased by Campbell in 1999 for approximately $100,000. It was transported from Greece to Oregon at an additional cost of around $80,000 and required another $20,000 for foundational support.

Campbell's home retains many original features of the plane, including cockpit panels and overhead bins. The conversion includes plumbing, electricity, and basic living amenities. Monthly expenses are reported to be about $370 due to off-grid enhancements like solar lighting and efficient insulation.

This trend of repurposing aircraft extends beyond personal residences. In Mississippi, Jo Ann Ussery converted a Boeing 727 into a lakeside cabin after losing her home to fire. Globally, retired planes have been turned into hotels and restaurants. Examples include PYTCHAir in Bristol and the Jumbo Stay hostel in Stockholm.

The versatility of these aircraft is evident as they find new life as homes or businesses worldwide. This movement not only preserves aviation history but also offers sustainable living alternatives.
