United Airlines has introduced a new feature that allows passengers to view their position on the upgrade list up to 30 days before departure. This feature, currently in beta, is expected to be available more widely in the coming weeks.

To access this feature, passengers need to update their United app via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Once updated, they can manage their reservation through the trips page and find a new "upgrade waitlist" callout under the seat assignment section. However, if this option is not visible, it may indicate an unsupported reservation or that the beta feature is not yet enabled for that account.

Upon selecting the upgrade waitlist, passengers will see their current position and the number of seats remaining. This applies to all types of upgrades with United, including those requested with miles, PlusPoints, or complimentary Premier upgrades.

As United Airlines notes, positions on the waitlist may change as other passengers make last-minute bookings. Two days before departure, United will provide a detailed upgrade list showing waitlist positions and available seats.

United says this feature was developed based on customer feedback to enhance transparency. A personal user of this feature noted its usefulness in deciding whether to switch flights when aiming for an upgrade.

This tool reduces guesswork previously involved in determining upgrade chances but acknowledges that positions can change before check-in and boarding. More information is seen as beneficial for travel planning with United Airlines.
