American Airlines is set to expand its operations in the Garden State with a new route connecting Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Trenton-Mercer Airport (TTN) starting September 22. The service will be operated by buses through the airline's partner, Landline, offering three daily "flights" between the two locations.

Passengers traveling from Trenton will undergo security screening by the Transportation Security Administration at their departure point, allowing for seamless flight connections upon arrival in Philadelphia. Checked luggage will also be automatically transferred.

Nick Johnson, vice president and head of revenue at Landline, highlighted the impact of this service on LinkedIn: "By this fall, Landline will feed over 1,500 daily seats into American's Philadelphia hub from five Northeast cities, unlocking seamless global connectivity for hundreds of thousands of travelers each year."

Members of American Airlines AAdvantage and loyalty programs from partner airlines can earn and redeem points on these services. Tickets are available on American's website with AAdvantage redemptions starting at 6,000 miles one-way from September 23.

The new bus route is part of a broader strategy by Landline to offer cost-effective "flights" with amenities similar to those found on planes. This concept has been implemented since Landline's launch in 2019 and has seen partnerships with Sun Country Airlines and United Airlines before joining forces with American in 2022.

Landline now serves several airports from PHL on behalf of American Airlines including Atlantic City International Airport (ACY), Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE), Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport (AVP), Wilmington Airport (ILG), and soon Trenton-Mercer Airport (TTN).

According to American's website, the journey between Philadelphia and Trenton will take approximately 50 minutes. Buses depart Philadelphia at various times throughout the day while departures from Trenton are scheduled for early morning to late afternoon.
