Delta Air Lines is set to introduce nonstop flights from Salt Lake City to Lima, Peru, starting December 4, 2025. This will be the first direct link between the two cities. The service is planned to operate until January 25, 2026.

According to Delta, Lima is the most sought-after South American destination from Salt Lake City. For the year ending July 2024, there were 23,000 round-trip passengers between these locations, based on OAG Traffic Analyzer data.

The airline plans to use Boeing 767-300ER aircraft for this route. These planes can accommodate up to 216 passengers across four cabin classes: business class, premium economy, economy plus, and economy class. Delta currently operates a fleet of 40 Boeing 767-300ERs with an average age of 29 years. The flight covers a distance of approximately 3,704 nautical miles and takes about seven to eight hours.

The new route will also facilitate travel for passengers from other Western US cities such as San Francisco and Seattle with just one stop in Salt Lake City. Utah Governor Spencer J. Cox commented on the development: "The creation of this first-ever nonstop gateway between Utah and South America is an exciting opportunity to build upon Utah’s growing importance on the world stage and it underscores Delta’s commitment to our state."

Salt Lake City serves as Delta's fourth busiest hub outside Atlanta. From SLC, Delta operates up to 265 peak-day departures to various destinations. The airline has been investing in expanding its operations at SLC with recent developments including Concourse A and a pilot training center opened in December 2024.

In addition to this new South American route, Delta recently launched its inaugural nonstop flight from Salt Lake City International Airport to Seoul Incheon (ICN), marking another significant milestone for the airline.

Following the announcement of these new flights, Delta reported strong financial results for Q2 with a net profit of $2.1 billion. According to Glen Hauenstein, President of Delta Air Lines: "Demand remained steady in the second quarter," highlighting resilience in their revenue streams amid economic challenges.
