Eric Allison, Chief Product Officer at Joby Aviation | Joby Aviation

Joby Aviation has expanded its facility in California, increasing its production capacity to 24 aircraft annually. The company celebrated the opening of a 435,500-square-foot plant at its Marina campus, supporting its commercial operations. Joby's recent successful test flights in Dubai marked significant progress for its air taxi program.

The new facility complements Joby's testing site at Edwards Air Force Base and a manufacturing plant in Dayton, Ohio. The expansion will create hundreds of full-time jobs as Joby scales up aircraft production. Utilizing American innovation and advanced technologies like 3D printing, Joby aims to produce stronger and lighter parts.

Joby manages most aspects of its aircraft services internally to ensure quality and timely delivery. Toyota engineers are providing support with design, production, and specialized tooling construction as Joby prepares for full-rate production.

The company is expanding its test flight program with a newly completed airframe joining the fleet. Eric Allison, Chief Product Officer, remarked on the company's advancements: “Reimagining urban mobility takes speed, scale, and precision manufacturing. Our expanded manufacturing footprint in both California and Ohio is preparing us to do just that."

In June 2025, Joby's electric air taxi successfully completed piloted flights in Dubai. These trials prepare for the commercial market entry in the UAE by 2026. With low noise levels and zero emissions, Joby's aircraft can carry a pilot and four passengers at speeds of up to 200 mph (~320 km/h).

A vertiport is under development at Dubai International Airport (DXB), aiming for quick travel times within Dubai. The eVTOL offers an efficient alternative for city commutes compared to traditional transport modes.

Joby's first international flight occurred last November in Japan with Toyota's support. The UAE tests signify readiness for full-scale production.

Since opening its testing facility earlier than planned at Edwards AFB in 2023, Joby has delivered pioneering air taxis under a contract valued at $131 million with options for more units. Collaborations with NASA and the US military highlight ongoing tests towards certification.

Joby's journey continues as it advances towards revolutionizing air mobility with commercial service nearing.
