In recent months, Boeing has made significant strides in securing international aircraft orders, bolstered by diplomatic engagements. The US planemaker's success continued with new commitments from Bahrain and Indonesia, both of which have confirmed plans to acquire a substantial number of aircraft.

These deals were announced during high-level meetings in Washington, where officials from Bahrain and Indonesia confirmed new Boeing jet orders alongside broader bilateral investment discussions. According to Boeing’s latest data, the manufacturer has secured over 600 commercial aircraft orders so far this year.

Bahrain has committed to purchasing 12 Boeing aircraft as part of a $17 billion investment package announced during Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa’s visit to Washington. This deal, valued at approximately $7 billion, includes an option for six additional jets and is tied to Gulf Air’s fleet renewal strategy. The carrier is reportedly targeting Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

The agreement also involves the purchase of 40 General Electric engines. This marks a potential shift in Gulf Air’s widebody fleet configuration as the airline currently operates Rolls-Royce-powered Dreamliners but is considering moving to GE’s GEnx engines due to ongoing technical challenges with Rolls-Royce's Trent 1000 program.

The White House stated that this deal would support up to 30,000 jobs in the United States. This announcement follows Gulf Air’s confirmation of a new nonstop service to New York set for October using the 787. Currently, Gulf Air operates a fleet of 43 aircraft, including ten 787-9 Dreamliners.

Meanwhile, Indonesia has pledged to purchase 50 Boeing aircraft as part of an economic agreement unveiled during President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to Washington. This commitment followed direct negotiations with President Trump amid efforts to ease tariff threats on Indonesian exports.

Although full details are pending confirmation, Trump noted on social media that the agreement includes multiple widebody jets and mentioned “many” will be Boeing 777s. Garuda Indonesia is believed to be the primary customer behind this deal despite its financially strained relationship with Boeing following halted deliveries after the Lion Air crash in 2018.

Reports suggest that the new order could include MAX, 787, and 777 models; however, financing remains unclear given Garuda's past payment struggles and failed debt restructuring attempts. Bloomberg reports indicate potential financing flexibility may involve support from Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund.

These announcements are among several major aircraft deals aligned with President Donald Trump’s overseas engagements. In May alone, Boeing logged more than 300 new orders driven largely by a landmark deal with Qatar Airways for widebody jets.
