The commercial aircraft market is dominated by Airbus and Boeing, especially in the narrowbody and widebody segments. However, regional aviation operates differently, focusing on lower-capacity jets for shorter routes. Embraer and Bombardier lead this space, with Embraer's E195-E2 jet being the largest regional jet currently in service.

Embraer entered the regional segment in 1989 with its Enterprise Regional Jet (ERJ) program. The ERJ-145 was introduced in 1997, followed by other models like the ERJ 135 and ERJ 140. Although production of the ERJ family ended in 2020, many remain operational worldwide.

Building on the success of its ERJ family, Embraer launched the E-Jet family in the early 2000s. This lineup includes larger capacity jets like the E190 and E195. In 2013, Embraer introduced the E-Jet E2 program, focusing on fuel efficiency and operating costs. The E195-E2 variant is currently at the top with a seating capacity ranging from 132 to 146 passengers.

"The E195-E2 stands at the top," according to Embraer. It supports multiple cabin configurations depending on airline needs and has a maximum range of up to 3,000 NM after a performance upgrade in 2024.

Powered by Pratt & Whitney's PW1900G engines, it delivers significant thrust while maintaining fuel efficiency. "Embraer claims the E195-E2 is the quietest single-aisle aircraft in commercial service."

The model was first showcased at the Paris Air Show in 2017 and received type certification in April 2019. Azul Linhas Aereas became its launch operator later that year. As of now, approximately 141 E195-E2s have been delivered globally.

Porter Airlines operates the largest fleet of these jets with plans for further expansion. Other operators include Azul, KLM Cityhopper, Binter Canarias, Air Peace, Helvetic Airways, Royal Jordanian, LOT Polish Airlines, TUI fly (Belgium), Fuerza Aérea Mexicana, and Hunnu Air.

Despite competition from Bombardier's CRJ Series and Airbus's A220-300 model—which offers higher seating capacity—Embraer's E195-E2 remains competitive due to its balance of capacity and efficiency.

"Several airlines are now placing confidence in the type as part of long-term fleet modernization strategies," according to recent industry data.
