The historic Junkers Ju 52 aircraft is set to be relocated to the Lufthansa Group Conference and Visitor Center in Frankfurt. Known as "Aunt Ju," the aircraft was bid farewell in Paderborn-Lippstadt, where it had been undergoing restoration since 2020 by the Quax Association. The Deutsche Lufthansa Berlin Stiftung (DLBS) owns the aircraft, which will be displayed in Frankfurt from 2026, coinciding with the centenary of Lufthansa's founding.

During a farewell ceremony, Lufthansa Group acknowledged the contributions of the Quax Association and Paderborn Airport for their support of both the Ju 52 and Lockheed Super Star aircraft. The Quax Association will continue maintaining two other DLBS aircraft in Paderborn.

Wolfgang von Richthofen, Project Manager of the Lufthansa Group Conference and Visitor Center, stated: "With our Ju 52, we are preserving the history of Lufthansa and aviation. The historic aircraft will enrich the exhibition in our new visitor center as an essential exhibit and will be accessible to customers, employees, aviation enthusiasts, and the general public."

Werner Knorr, CEO of DLBS, commented: "The departure from Paderborn is not a final farewell but the beginning of a new chapter for the Ju 52, one that honors its history and significance for aviation."

The Junkers Ju 52 has played a significant role in Lufthansa's history since joining its fleet in 1932. It became an emblematic figure due to its reliability and economic efficiency. Initially designed as a single-engine plane, it evolved into a three-engine model known for its durability.

In proximity to the Lufthansa Aviation Center at Frankfurt Airport, construction began on a new conference and visitor center in 2024. This facility aims to foster collaboration among employees while serving customers, business partners, and aviation enthusiasts.

Lufthansa plans to showcase two restored historical aircraft permanently: Junkers Ju 52 (D-AQUI) and Lockheed Super Star (D-ALAN), which is currently being painted at Münster-Osnabrück Airport. A transparent façade will allow these exhibits to be visible from afar.

Visitors can explore various exhibits related to Lufthansa's corporate history in an open gallery format. Similar to "Lufthansa Seeheim," this center will host external events and feature culinary offerings in a coffee lounge.
