At least 19 people have died after a fighter jet crashed into a school in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The incident involved a Chengdu F-7BGI aircraft, which collided with the Milestone School and College in the Uttara neighborhood of the capital city. A large explosion followed, injuring over 100 individuals, many with burn injuries.

There are concerns that the death toll may rise as conflicting reports emerge from official sources regarding casualties. In response to the tragedy, Bangladesh has declared a national day of mourning tomorrow.

The crash occurred shortly after 13:00 local time when the Bangladesh Air Force's F-7 BGI training aircraft took off at 13:06 (07:06 GMT). The BBC reported that nine fire engines and six ambulances were dispatched to manage the blaze and assist those injured.

Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of Bangladesh's interim government, stated online that "the government will take necessary measures to investigate the cause of the accident and ensure all forms of assistance." He instructed authorities to prioritize addressing the situation.

Flags across Bangladesh will be flown at half-mast on July 22 in memory of those who perished. Among them was the pilot on their first solo mission. Reports indicate that despite attempts to divert the plane away from populated areas, it crashed into a two-story primary school facility just ten minutes into its flight.

The Daily Campus noted that air traffic controllers advised ejection, but it was not possible before impact. This effort mirrors historical acts of bravery but could not prevent this tragic outcome for Bangladesh.
