Global Entry has become an essential tool for international travelers looking to expedite their return to the United States. Since its introduction in 2008 by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, this system has been helping American travelers bypass long lines at customs upon re-entry into the country.

Currently, Global Entry services are available at over 75 airports worldwide. This program is especially beneficial for frequent international travelers, as it allows preapproved, low-risk individuals to use automatic kiosks at select airports. "Global Entry members can, in many cases, simply take a photo at a mobile kiosk," explains Sean Cudahy of The Points Guy.

Additionally, Global Entry membership includes access to TSA PreCheck, an expedited security program run by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration. As Cudahy notes, "Global Entry can help users skip long immigration lines and complete the customs process in as little as 45 seconds."

As of July 2025, there are 62 domestic airports in the U.S. equipped with Global Entry kiosks. Major hubs such as John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) offer these facilities, along with smaller airports like Toledo Express Airport (TOL).

Internationally, Global Entry is available at 16 airports offering preclearance for U.S. travelers in locations including Canada and Ireland.

For those who have been conditionally approved for Global Entry but need to complete their interview portion of the application process, CBP provides a service called Enrollment on Arrival at 67 airports across the U.S., allowing them to finalize their application upon returning from an international flight.

The Points Guy highlights that many premium credit cards offer a statement credit covering the application fee for Global Entry membership. "The Points Guy cannot recommend Global Entry highly enough," says Sean Cudahy.
