Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) announced on X that Volaris has launched a new nonstop route from Los Angeles to Tepic–Riviera Nayarit, marking the first international service for Tepic Airport with flights operating three times a week.

According to Aviation Week, Tepic–Riviera Nayarit International Airport (TPQ) had not previously hosted international flights, making this milestone route a significant development for the region. The launch follows years of airport modernization and strategic route planning aimed at increasing overseas connectivity. Airport authorities highlighted that this inaugural service elevates TPQ to international status, offering a direct link to a major U.S. city.

Aviation Week reports the LAX–TPQ route will run nonstop three times weekly—Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays—using an Airbus A320neo capable of seating approximately 186 passengers. Volaris anticipates solid uptake driven by leisure travelers and visiting friends and relatives, projecting strong load factors on each departure. The airline selected this frequency to balance demand and aircraft utilization efficiently.

Vallarta Daily notes that Volaris’s schedule departs Los Angeles in the morning and returns from Tepic in the afternoon, enabling travelers to enjoy extended day trips or weekend stays. Regional tourism officials emphasized that the new route showcases Tepic’s cultural offerings and Riviera Nayarit’s coastal attractions to U.S. tourists. This deliberate timing enhances accessibility for both business travelers and holidaymakers.

According to Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), Los Angeles International Airport handled approximately 76.6 million passengers and 581,779 aircraft operations in 2024. It ranks among the busiest airports globally by aircraft movements and is the West Coast’s largest international gateway. Operated by LAWA, LAX is a central hub for domestic and international carriers.
