Alaska Airlines announced on the social media platform X that it, along with Horizon Air, is working to restore normal operations following a significant IT outage. This outage led to a system-wide ground stop and disrupted flights.

According to Alaska Airlines’ official X account, the major IT outage occurred late Sunday, resulting in a halt of all flights across both Alaska Airlines and its regional carrier Horizon Air. The disruption affected airports and travelers throughout the airline’s entire network. Alaska Airlines issued repeated updates and guidance for guests, thanking travelers for their patience and emphasizing efforts to quickly restore normal service and support affected passengers.

As reported by USA Today, the outage caused more than 500 flight delays and over 200 cancellations nationwide on Monday. Thousands of travelers were stranded at airports from Seattle to Los Angeles and beyond. Alaska Airlines said that it was collaborating with IT specialists to resolve the technical issues and resume regular flight operations as swiftly as possible. The carrier’s customer service teams prioritized rebooking passengers and offering assistance to those most severely impacted.

The Seattle Times confirmed that the disruption began Sunday night, forcing a temporary system-wide halt to all Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air flights until IT systems could be stabilized. By Monday afternoon, flight operations had gradually resumed; however, significant delays and cancellations persisted as the airline worked to clear the backlog. Alaska Airlines advised all travelers to check their flight status frequently and plan for possible extended waits as schedules continued to be adjusted throughout the day.

According to the official website of Alaska Airlines, it is a leading U.S. carrier headquartered in Seattle, Washington, operating flights to more than 115 destinations across North America. The airline is recognized for its strong operational performance, customer service reputation, and membership in the Oneworld global alliance. Alongside its regional partner Horizon Air, Alaska Airlines transports millions of passengers each year and is committed to continuous improvement in safety, reliability, and innovation.
