The major US airlines, known as the "big three," consist of United Airlines, American Airlines, and Delta Air Lines. These carriers have some of the largest fleets in commercial aviation worldwide.
American Airlines operates 48 Airbus A320-200 jets with an average age of around 24 years. The fleet's youngest aircraft are over 15 years old, while the oldest approach 28 years. The introduction of the A320 family followed a merger with US Airways in 2013. Doug Parker, former CEO of American Airlines, remarked on this merger: "Our people, our customers and the communities we serve around the world have been anticipating the arrival of the new American."
United Airlines' fleet includes 37 Boeing 767-300ER jets averaging 29 years old. The oldest aircraft is more than 34 years old. United plans to replace these planes with up to 200 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. This transition aims to enhance passenger experience and improve financial performance.
