As the three most iconic airlines in the United States, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and American Airlines frequently operate flights between New York and Los Angeles. Data commissioned by Simple Flying from Cirium reveals which of these airlines is expected to dominate this route by July 2025.

United Airlines emerges as the leader in terms of traffic, seats, and available seat miles (ASM). The airline offers 303 outbound flights with 69,145 seats available. This dominance is highlighted by its diverse fleet of Boeing passenger jets, including the 757-200, 777, and 787-9.

Delta Air Lines follows closely behind United. It operates a variety of aircraft on this route, such as the Airbus A330-900neo and Boeing models like the 757-200 and 767 series. Despite operating fewer flights than United, Delta's fleet comprises both widebody and narrowbody aircraft.

American Airlines lags behind its competitors with significantly fewer seats and ASM. The airline primarily uses Airbus A321neo aircraft for this route. Robert Isom from American Airlines stated: “Over the past decade, we have invested heavily to modernize and simplify our fleet... These orders will continue to fuel our fleet with newer, more efficient aircraft so we can continue to deliver the best network and record-setting operational reliability for our customers.”

JetBlue's CEO Joanna Geraghty commented on their partnership with United: “United’s global reach perfectly complements JetBlue’s East Coast leisure network..."

Ultra-low-cost carriers like Frontier Airlines and Spirit Airlines also present competition on this route. Both aim to offer low ticket prices while introducing premium options similar to legacy carriers.
