American Airlines has introduced a new option for its passengers, allowing them to use AAdvantage miles for inflight purchases across all flights. This policy change was confirmed by American Airlines and took effect on Tuesday. Previously, the use of miles for purchases was limited to mainline flights.

"We are continuously looking for ways to enhance the travel journey for our customers and are thrilled to expand this new enhancement to all flights," American stated in a release shared with The Points Guy (TPG).

Passengers can now use their AAdvantage miles to buy alcoholic beverages such as beer, wine, and liquor on domestic flights over 250 miles, as well as snacks on some flights over 1,100 miles. To redeem miles, travelers must ensure their AAdvantage number is linked to their reservation and have their boarding pass ready when making a purchase.

The pricing structure allows items like wine for $10 or 1,000 miles; Bud Light, Dos Equis, and Truly Hard Seltzer for $9 or 900 miles; Goose IPA or Heineken for $10 or 1,000 miles; a fruit-and-cheese plate for $11 or 1,100 miles; a steak-and-pimento-cheese sandwich with side salad for $16 or 1,600 miles; a Tostitos snack box for $7 or 700 miles; and Doritos Minis Cool Ranch bag for $5 or 500 miles.

Travelers using an eligible AAdvantage cobranded credit card or the AAdvantage Aviator Red World Elite Mastercard will receive a 25% savings as statement credit. Those with the AAdvantage Aviator World Elite Silver Mastercard can receive up to $25 back per day in statement credits.

American Airlines continues offering complimentary meals and beverages on certain routes like long-haul international flights and Flagship First between Hawaii and both Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and O'Hare International Airport (ORD).
