Alaska Airlines has announced the addition of seven new routes across 12 cities in California, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. The Seattle-based airline's expansion will increase its presence at Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) and add connections between Southern California and Idaho.

The new routes are scheduled to launch between late October 2025 and early January 2026. This move comes after Avelo Airlines revealed it would exit its West Coast network, leaving a gap at Burbank that Alaska plans to fill.

Kirsten Amrine, Alaska's vice president of revenue management and network planning, said in an interview with The Points Guy: "We're willing to fly these point-to-point routes, and believe it helps us gain loyalty with our guests."

One of the new offerings is nonstop service from San Diego International Airport (SAN) to Friedman Memorial Airport (SUN) in Sun Valley, Idaho. Amrine explained this route follows a similar strategy used last year for flights between San Diego and Vail, Colorado. "I think it also gives us more of a premium edge in San Diego as we think about our brand versus others," she said.

The seven new routes are as follows:

- BUR to Eugene Airport (EUG), Oregon — daily service beginning Oct. 26

- BUR to Tri-Cities Airport (PSC), Washington — daily service beginning Oct. 26

- BUR to Redmond Municipal Airport (RDM), Oregon — daily service beginning Oct. 26

- Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) to Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport (STS), California — five weekly round trips during winter starting Oct. 26

- SAN to SUN in Idaho — three weekly round trips during winter starting Dec. 18

- Boise Airport (BOI) to Ontario International Airport (ONT), California — daily service beginning Jan. 7, 2026

- Spokane International Airport (GEG), Washington to John Wayne Airport (SNA), California — daily service beginning Jan. 7, 2026

All flights will be operated by Horizon Air using Embraer 175 regional jets configured with first-class recliners, Premium seats with extra legroom, and main cabin seating.

Competition on some Burbank routes is expected from Breeze Airways, which launched similar flights after Avelo’s departure.

According to aviation analytics firm Cirium data cited by The Points Guy, Alaska’s total departures among California, Oregon, Idaho and Washington were already set for a nine percent increase this coming winter compared with last year.

For travelers booking through the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan program, most newly announced flights start at one-way redemptions of 7,500 miles for economy class seats.

Following the planned merger between Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines next year, customers will continue transferring Hawaiian miles into Alaska’s Mileage Plan seamlessly. Executives from Alaska Air Group stated last week that a combined loyalty program for both brands will be unveiled by mid-August.

"We're willing to fly these point-to-point routes, and believe it helps us gain loyalty with our guests," Kirsten Amrine said.

"I think it also gives us more of a premium edge in San Diego as we think about our brand versus others," she added.
