The Boeing 777 continues to be a key aircraft for transatlantic travel between the United States and Europe, nearly three decades after it entered service. Airlines across both continents rely on this widebody jet for some of their busiest international routes.

Currently, there are more than 1,300 Boeing 777s in active service worldwide. The most common variant is the 777-300ER, with 730 units operating globally. Other models include the 777-200ER, freighter versions, and ultra-long-range types.

According to data from Cirium, about 4,049 Boeing 777 flights are scheduled to cross the Atlantic this month. The route with the highest number of these flights is between New York’s JFK Airport and London Heathrow Airport. British Airways operates this corridor with up to eight daily flights using both the 777-200ER and 777-300ER. For August alone, British Airways has scheduled 226 one-way flights on this route.

Air France also maintains frequent service between JFK and Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport with around five to six daily flights using the Boeing 777. American Airlines runs three major transatlantic routes with its fleet of 777s from Dallas–Fort Worth, New York JFK, and Charlotte Douglas International Airport to London Heathrow.

United Airlines remains one of the largest operators of the Boeing 777. This month alone, United will operate close to 900 transatlantic flights with its fleet of these jets. The airline uses the aircraft on several high-frequency routes from Washington Dulles to London Heathrow, Frankfurt, and Rome Fiumicino; from San Francisco International to London and Frankfurt; and from Houston Intercontinental to Heathrow. United also flies daily services connecting US hubs such as Newark and San Francisco with European cities including Zurich, Munich, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Paris, Milan, and Brussels.

Some airlines use the Boeing 777 less frequently on certain routes. KLM is scheduling limited numbers of transatlantic services with its Boeing 777s this month—for example: Salt Lake City to Amsterdam (14 flights), San Francisco (7), Boston (3), and Chicago O’Hare (1) to Amsterdam. British Airways will operate only occasional services between Las Vegas and London Gatwick using the type. Turkish Airlines plans a similar approach for its Houston-Istanbul connection.

American Airlines is also deploying its Boeing 777s on select routes between Dallas–Fort Worth and both Barcelona and Venice during August. Austrian Airlines has scheduled one flight using a Boeing 777 from San Francisco to Vienna later in the month.

The Boeing 777 was first delivered in May of 1995 and was launched by United Airlines as its initial customer.
