Ben Minicucci President & CEO | Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines has announced plans to expand its international network with new nonstop flights from Seattle to London Heathrow and Reykjavik, Iceland. The new routes are scheduled to begin in spring 2026, marking the airline’s fourth and fifth intercontinental destinations from Seattle, with a goal of serving at least 12 such destinations by 2030.

The daily service to London will use Alaska’s widebody 787-9 aircraft, which feature 34 enclosed suites with fully lie-flat seats in Business Class. According to the airline, London is the largest intercontinental market from Seattle, with more than 400 passengers traveling between the two cities each day. The route aims to serve both business and leisure travelers and will connect guests throughout the West Coast and beyond via Alaska’s partner network.

Alaska Airlines CEO Ben Minicucci stated: “With these bold moves, we are accelerating our vision to connect our guests to the world. We are seizing this moment to redefine the international experience and level up. And we’re doing it with the same relentless focus on safety, care and performance that’s always defined us. I’m so proud of how our people continue to step up and deliver as we push ahead on these initiatives, with even more to come.”

The airline also plans a daily summer seasonal flight between Seattle and Reykjavik using Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft. This route is designed for long-range flying and targets travelers interested in adventure tourism in Iceland or connecting onward into Europe.

In addition to new routes, Alaska Airlines unveiled a redesigned exterior for its upcoming fleet of up to 17 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The new livery draws inspiration from the Aurora Borealis, featuring deep blues and greens along with design elements referencing classic liveries from previous decades.

Andrew Harrison, Chief Commercial Officer at Alaska Airlines, commented: “Our new 787 exterior embodies Alaska’s transition to a global airline with beauty, grace and a nod to our heritage. As we significantly expand to new destinations around the globe, we’re eager for more and more travelers to recognize our new livery as being Alaska Airlines and appreciate the outstanding service we’ve long been known for.”

The carrier will establish a hub for its Dreamliner fleet in Seattle alongside an expanded pilot base dedicated specifically for 787 operations beginning next spring. Currently, four Dreamliners are part of Alaska’s fleet.

Alaska Airlines also highlighted ongoing investments in its Airbus A330 widebody aircraft operated by Hawaiian Airlines out of Honolulu. Planned upgrades include all-new interiors with updated lie-flat seats in Business Class, a premium economy cabin, upgraded main cabin seating, as well as enhanced amenities.

The airline noted that all flights mentioned are subject to government approval.
