Birmingham Airport temporarily closed its runway on August 6, 2025, following an emergency landing involving a Beech B200 Super King Air operated by Woodgate Aviation. The incident resulted in one passenger sustaining minor injuries.

Airport authorities advised travelers to check their flight status before heading to the airport due to expected disruptions, including delays and cancellations. "Passengers are advised to check the status of their flight before coming to the airport, as travel disruptions, including delays and cancellations, are expected," the airport stated.

The Birmingham Airport Police reported that the aircraft, registered as G-NIAA, was scheduled for a flight from Birmingham Airport (BHX) to Belfast International Airport (BFS). Shortly after takeoff, it declared an emergency by squawking 7700 and landed at BHX at 1:40 PM local time. Emergency services responded promptly and confirmed one person had minor injuries.

The cause of the emergency landing and details about any damage to the aircraft have not yet been disclosed. The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has been notified and will conduct an investigation into the incident. The runway closure is expected to last until 6 PM local time. During this period, inbound flights are being diverted to other UK airports while departing passengers face extended wait times.

Flight tracking data from Flightradar24.com shows that Birmingham Airport currently has a disruption index of level five. Many flights are delayed by an average of 145 minutes. Some flights, such as airBaltic’s service to Brussels and Aer Lingus’ service to Belfast, have been canceled.

Birmingham Airport is located about eight miles east-southeast of Birmingham city center and serves over 13 million passengers annually. It is the seventh-largest airport in the UK and expects nearly 14 million passengers in the upcoming year. The airport aims to reach 18 million passengers by 2033. It hosts 25 airlines flying to more than 130 destinations.

Woodgate Aviation, based at Belfast International Airport since its founding in 1969, provides corporate, business, private aviation services as well as air ambulance operations across Northern Ireland. Its fleet includes two Beechcraft King Air B200 turboprops used for charters and patient transfers and two PA31 Piper Chieftain aircraft mainly assigned to Ordnance Survey contracts. The company holds a CAA-approved air operator's certificate and is a member of both the European Business Aviation Association (EBAA) and Irish Business and General Aviation Association (IBGAA).
