Rob Katz CEO at Vail Resorts | Vail Resorts

Vail Resorts has announced a new program for the 2025-26 ski season that will allow Epic Pass holders to purchase discounted lift tickets for friends. The initiative, called "Epic Friend Tickets," provides a 50% discount on lift tickets for companions at all 37 of Vail's North American resorts.

"If you ski or ride, chances are someone brought you into the sport, and we want to make it easier for you to pay it forward," said Rob Katz, CEO of Vail Resorts.

Epic Pass holders who bought their pass before April 14 will receive 10 friend tickets, while those who purchased after that date will get six. These tickets replace the previous "Buddy Tickets" system, which Vail stated offered less consistent savings and varied by resort.

Passholders can redeem these companion tickets through the Epic Pass website. Activation is available via the My Epic app or in person at resort ticket windows.

Additionally, friends using an Epic Friend Ticket can apply its full value toward the purchase of a 2026-27 Epic Pass.

"By making it easier for our Pass Holders to share the ski experience with friends — through savings across not one, but two winter seasons — we hope to help spark traditions that will inspire groups of friends to return to the mountains for years to come," Katz added.

The Epic Pass currently grants unlimited access to more than 40 mountains and restricted access to additional resorts worldwide. It is priced at $1,075 as of now, with an increase scheduled after September 1. Other options include the Epic Local Pass at $799, which offers unlimited access to 29 mountain resorts, and the Epic Day Pass ranging from $58 to $838 for skiers planning shorter trips. Only holders of the Epic Pass and Epic Local Pass qualify for the new friend ticket benefit; those with an Epic Day Pass do not.

Vail Resorts owns and operates 42 mountains across North America, Europe, and Australia. Notable properties include Whistler Blackcomb in Canada; Park City Mountain in Utah; Breckenridge in Colorado; Stowe in Vermont; and Crans-Montana in Switzerland. The company also partners with other resorts throughout North America, Europe, Japan, Austria, France, and Italy (https://www.vailresorts.com/).

In Australia, Vail offers a similar program called "Bring A Mate," which gives up to half off single-day lift tickets at Perisher, Falls Creek, and Hotham (https://www.perisher.com.au/).
