Patrick Healy Cathay Group Chair | Cathay Pacific

The Cathay Group has released its interim financial results for 2025, reporting an attributable profit of HK$3.7 billion for the first half of the year, maintaining a similar level to that achieved in the same period last year. The company also announced it will exercise purchase rights for 14 additional Boeing 777-9 aircraft, increasing its total order for this model to 35.

Patrick Healy, Chair of Cathay Group, commented on the ongoing fleet renewal and expansion strategy: “Over the past few years, we have embarked on an all-encompassing fleet renewal and expansion plan, which includes orders for over 100 new narrowbody, regional widebody, long-haul widebody and large freighter aircraft. This new order brings our total investment to well over HK$100 billion, which also includes new cabin products, lounges and digital innovation, further strengthening the Hong Kong international aviation hub and elevating the customer experience to new heights."

Healy noted that Cathay Pacific and HK Express have launched or announced 19 new destinations so far in 2025. The group now serves more than 100 passenger destinations worldwide as part of efforts to enhance Hong Kong’s global connectivity.

"As a Group, our passenger airlines, Cathay Pacific and HK Express, have launched or announced 19 new destinations so far in 2025, with more still to come. We now fly to more than 100 passenger destinations globally, as we continue to enhance Hong Kong’s connectivity with the world."

The airline group highlighted recent industry recognitions: "We are also delighted to have been recognised in multiple renowned industry rankings and awards. Cathay Pacific was named one of the world’s top three airlines, as well as being recognised for having the world’s best Economy class and the world’s best inflight entertainment according to Skytrax. Meanwhile, Cathay Cargo was again named Cargo Operator of the Year by Air Transport World, and HK Express was named one of the top five low-cost airlines in the world by Airline Ratings. These achievements would not have been possible without the steadfast support of our customers and the dedication of our people, for which we are extremely grateful.”

Cathay attributes its first-half performance to higher passenger capacity and volumes despite lower yields; a resilient cargo business; and lower fuel prices. Losses from associates amounted to HK$181 million compared with HK$342 million during last year's first half.

Shareholders will receive a first interim dividend payment of HK20 cents per ordinary share (HK$1.3 billion total), consistent with last year’s interim dividend.

The company continues investing in customer experience improvements such as upgraded cabin products—most notably introducing Aria Suite Business class cabins—and inflight entertainment systems recognized by design awards. Plans include new flat-bed Business class products on Airbus A330s in 2026 and a First class product debuting on Boeing 777-9s expected in 2027.

Cathay is updating its regional Business class cabins on select A330-300s and 777-300s this year. From this month forward, all flights offer both seatback inflight entertainment systems and full inflight connectivity across their entire fleet.

Lounge upgrades are underway at key airports including recent renovations at Hong Kong International Airport's The Bridge lounge; Beijing's flagship lounge is set to reopen soon while New York will see a brand-new flagship lounge next year.

Cathay Cargo continues focusing on enhancing digital capabilities along with sustainability initiatives as it positions itself for future growth.
