Google Flights has introduced a new feature that allows users to filter out basic economy fares from search results. This update addresses a longstanding request from travelers who have found it difficult to distinguish between restrictive basic economy tickets and standard coach fares when comparing flight prices.

The ability to exclude basic economy options is now being rolled out under the seating class selector on Google Flights. According to Google, this feature will be available to all users in the coming weeks.

Basic economy tickets often come with significant restrictions. For example, Delta Air Lines does not allow SkyMiles earning or Sky Club access on these fares, while United Airlines restricts full-size carry-on bags for basic economy passengers. Previously, it was challenging for users to know whether a listed price included such limitations when searching through Google Flights.

With this update, travelers can select which type of coach fare they want displayed in their search results. The feature was initially tested among a small group of users and is now expanding more broadly.

In addition to the new filtering tool, Google is launching "Flight Deals," an AI-powered search function within Google Flights designed for travelers seeking savings and flexibility. As described by Google in its blog post: "Flight Deals is designed for flexible travelers whose number one goal is saving money on their next trip." Users can specify travel preferences—such as timing, destination types, and travel style—and the tool uses artificial intelligence along with live data from Google Flights to suggest relevant deals.

"Flight Deals uses Google's advanced AI models to understand the nuances of what you're looking for and then taps into live Google Flights data to quickly show you relevant, up-to-date options," Google told TPG.

Currently, Flight Deals is in beta testing as part of efforts "to see how AI can improve travel planning." The initial rollout will focus on users in the U.S., Canada, and India.

These updates add new capabilities to the existing features of Google Flights, which has been widely used by travelers seeking flight deals and planning tools.
