Two easyJet Airbus A320-200 aircraft were involved in a ground collision at Manchester Airport early Friday morning. The incident, which occurred as both planes were taxiing for scheduled departures to Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport and Gibraltar, resulted in the top of one jet’s winglet being clipped off. No injuries have been reported.

Both flights—operated by aircraft registered G-EZWH and G-EZUN—were scheduled to depart at 06:15 local time. According to flight tracking data, the collision happened around 06:30 as the jets’ wings came into contact while moving on the tarmac. Passengers from both planes were able to disembark safely after returning to their gates for damage inspections.

An easyJet spokesperson stated, "The aircraft returned to stand to disembark customers who have been provided with refreshment vouchers whilst replacement aircraft are arranged to operate the flights. We apologise to customers for the delay to their flights. The safety of our passengers and crew is our highest priority."

Manchester Airport temporarily suspended flight operations following the incident so that emergency services could assess whether the planes could return safely to a stand. An airport spokesperson told The Guardian this assessment was necessary before allowing movement back to gates. The suspension lasted only a few minutes, but it caused uncertainty during a busy travel period.

Images shared online show significant damage, with one plane losing part of its winglet due to the impact. Passengers described the experience as similar in force to a car crash. EasyJet has begun an investigation into what led up to the collision.

Delays followed for other departing flights at Manchester Airport, with reports indicating average delays of about 48 minutes after the incident.

Manchester serves as a major base for easyJet within its network. Since establishing operations there in 2007, Manchester has become easyJet's second-largest base by destinations served—offering service to 93 locations, just ahead of Geneva and behind only London Gatwick Airport.

For August 2025 alone, aviation analytics firm Cirium reports that easyJet has planned approximately 3,906 flights connecting Manchester Airport with various destinations. These services represent more than 733,000 seats and over 761 million available seat miles for travelers using Manchester this month. Amsterdam is currently the top destination from Manchester in terms of frequency and seat capacity.
