Boeing Aerospace, based in Seattle, has reported progress in its aircraft production rates as it moves into the second half of 2025. The company is now producing 38 jets per month and aims to increase this figure to 42 monthly units, pending regulatory approval. This plan was discussed during Boeing’s recent second-quarter earnings call.

The certification process for the Boeing 737 MAX 7 and MAX 10 models continues to face delays, with a new estimated timeline set for mid-2026. Despite these setbacks, Boeing leadership indicated that the ongoing certification issues should not disrupt their current production ramp-up because of a strong order backlog for the Boeing 737 MAX 8 and MAX 9 variants.

Boeing’s management remains optimistic about increasing output beyond the target of 42 aircraft per month before year-end. Regulatory approval is still required, but executives have expressed confidence in securing it. CEO Kelly Ortberg stated: "As we look to the second half of the year, we remain focused on restoring trust and making continued progress in our recovery while operating in a dynamic global environment."

For airlines, improved production consistency means they can better plan schedules and begin retiring older aircraft without relying on expensive short-term leases. Some carriers are already considering substituting delayed MAX 7 and MAX 10 orders with other available variants within the MAX family. United Airlines is among those evaluating replacement options.

Production rates for long-haul models like the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Boeing 777 have also seen incremental improvements. While delivery delays have occurred, they have been relatively short-term rather than prolonged disruptions.

Financially, Boeing expects net cash outflows through the remainder of this year but anticipates turning positive cash flows next year if it successfully executes its planned production increases. The company’s shares have climbed by over 31% since January despite some early-year volatility due to tariff concerns. Analyst price targets for Boeing stock currently range between $230 and $250, with most analysts maintaining a strong buy rating.

However, challenges remain for investors. Boeing has not posted a profit so far this year and is trading at a negative price-to-earnings ratio of around -14. According to Stock Analysis, approximately 2.27% of shares are currently sold short as some investors continue to express caution regarding the company’s outlook.

CEO Kelly Ortberg leads Boeing from its headquarters in Chicago. The company was founded on July 15, 1916, and its key product lines include the Boeing 737, Boeing 747, Boeing 757, Boeing 767, Boeing 777, and Boeing 787 families.
