Frontier Airlines has launched a new status match promotion aimed at attracting frequent flyers from four major U.S. airlines: Southwest Airlines, Alaska Airlines, JetBlue, and Spirit Airlines. The offer allows members of these carriers’ loyalty programs to obtain Frontier Miles Elite Gold status for a $69 fee. The matched status will be valid through December 2026.

Gold is the second-highest tier in Frontier’s loyalty program. Benefits include a complimentary full-size carry-on bag and seat selection on even the lowest fare classes. Gold members also receive free access to the UpFront Plus seating option—which guarantees an empty middle seat—if available within four hours of departure.

A significant feature of this promotion is eligibility for upgrades to Frontier’s forthcoming first-class product, expected to launch by the end of 2025. "This is one of the most valuable offers we've ever extended to frequent flyers," said Jeff Werkheiser, Senior Director of Brand and Customer Engagement at Frontier. "We're inviting members of many different airline loyalty programs to experience The New Frontier - where they can travel affordably without sacrificing comfort or premium perks."

This initiative follows previous efforts by Frontier to attract loyal customers from rival airlines, including a similar paid status match earlier this year specifically for Southwest Rapid Rewards members. Those who participated in that prior campaign are not eligible for the current offer.

Over the past 18 months, Frontier has introduced new fare options and features such as UpFront Plus seats—comparable in some ways to European business class—and companion passes for its top-tier Elite Diamond and Elite Platinum members.

To take advantage of this promotion, travelers must have an active account with both Frontier Miles and one of the eligible competing airline programs: Southwest Rapid Rewards, Alaska Mileage Plan, JetBlue TrueBlue, or Free Spirit. After paying the $69 fee and providing proof of elite status with another carrier, upgrades are typically processed within 24 to 48 hours. The promotion runs through September 9.

The $69 fee may be offset quickly given how much Frontier typically charges for extras like bags and seat assignments on its flights (https://thepointsguy.com/guide/frontier-airlines-baggage-fees/). However, travelers should note that if they have already purchased add-ons such as seats or carry-on bags before receiving Gold status, those fees will not be refunded; benefits apply only going forward.

Unlike other promotions requiring flight activity or credit card spending thresholds for qualification or renewal, this offer does not require any additional actions beyond payment and proof of existing elite status.
