Federal Express Corporation has expanded its electric vehicle fleet in Hong Kong by adding six new Mercedes-Benz eVito panel vans to its parcel pickup and delivery operations. The company said the move supports its aim of reducing carbon emissions locally and achieving carbon-neutral operations worldwide by 2040.

The newly deployed vehicles, which can carry up to 913 kilograms and have an estimated range of 264 kilometers per charge, are being used in high-traffic districts across Hong Kong. The vans feature advanced technology systems, spacious storage, and ergonomic seating to support delivery operations. Electric vehicles generally provide lower total ownership costs, higher energy efficiency, and emit fewer air pollutants compared to traditional gasoline-powered vehicles. These features help improve operational efficiency while lessening environmental impact.

FedEx noted that consumer preferences are shifting toward sustainability. A recent survey found that 73% of Hong Kong customers—especially those from Gen Z and Millennial groups—consider sustainability when choosing brands or services. Nearly half of respondents have reduced or stopped buying from brands that do not prioritize sustainability.

“Adding new EVs to our local delivery fleet underscores our commitment to enhancing Hong Kong’s contribution to FedEx global sustainability efforts,” said Anthony Leung, managing director, FedEx Hong Kong and Macau. “With growing demand for reliable and sustainable options among Hong Kong customers, expanding our EV fleet is crucial for supporting sustainable development. As we work towards our goal of carbon-neutral global operations by 2040, FedEx is dedicated to transforming the logistics industry with innovative and sustainable solutions that meet evolving market needs.”

The company plans further expansion of its electric vehicle fleet in Hong Kong as part of a broader strategy aiming for a fully electric pickup and delivery operation by 2040. In addition to deploying more EVs, FedEx has introduced initiatives such as FedEx Sustainability Insights—a cloud-based tool providing shipment-related carbon emissions data—and collaborations with local social enterprises focused on repurposing unused uniforms and shipping materials to promote circular supply chains.
