FedEx has announced the addition of six new electric vans to its Hong Kong fleet, as part of its ongoing effort to reduce its operational carbon footprint and move towards a global goal of carbon-neutral operations by 2040. The newly added Mercedes-Benz eVito electric light vans will serve key busy areas in Hong Kong, offering a load capacity of up to 913 kilograms and a driving range exceeding 264 kilometers per charge.

The company highlighted that these vehicles are equipped with advanced technology systems, ample storage space, and ergonomic seating to ensure comfort and practicality during deliveries. Compared to traditional internal combustion engine vehicles, electric vehicles have lower operating costs, are more energy-efficient, and produce fewer air pollutants and carbon emissions. This shift is expected to increase operational efficiency while reducing environmental impact (https://www.epd.gov.hk/epd/tc_chi/environmentinhk/air/prob_solutions/new_energy_vehicles.html).

FedEx noted that the decision aligns with changing consumer preferences in Hong Kong. According to recent surveys, most consumers in the city—especially Generation Z and millennials—consider sustainability when choosing brands, products, or services. Additionally, nearly half of surveyed consumers have reduced or stopped purchasing from brands that do not prioritize sustainability.

Leong Ming Tim, Managing Director of FedEx Hong Kong and Macau said: "The addition of electric vehicles to our local fleet demonstrates our commitment to advancing FedEx’s global sustainability pledge in Hong Kong. As customer demand for reliable and sustainable services continues to grow in Hong Kong, expanding our EV fleet is crucial for supporting sustainable development. On our journey toward achieving global carbon-neutral operations goals, FedEx will continue delivering innovative and sustainable solutions that meet the evolving needs of the market."

FedEx plans further expansion of its electric vehicle fleet in Hong Kong over the coming years with an aim for 100% all-electric collection and delivery operations by 2040. In addition to using electric vehicles, FedEx has launched several other sustainability initiatives locally. These include the introduction of FedEx Sustainability Insights—a cloud-based tool providing customers with emissions data for shipments within the FedEx network—to help businesses make better transport decisions and reduce environmental impact. The company also partners with local social enterprises on upcycling projects for unused uniforms and shipping materials as part of efforts toward a circular supply chain.
