Earlier this week, Delta Air Lines flight DL668 from New York JFK to San Francisco International was diverted to John Glenn Columbus International Airport due to a medical emergency onboard. The incident involved a passenger who went into labor about an hour after takeoff, prompting the crew to seek an unscheduled landing in Ohio.

There were 135 passengers and six crew members on the Boeing 757-200 at the time. According to Flightradar24 data, the aircraft left JFK at 07:23 and landed in Columbus at around 08:45. Medical responders met the plane upon arrival, and the passenger was taken into care before the aircraft continued its journey.

A Delta spokesperson stated to Simple Flying, "As the health and safety of our people and customers comes before all else at Delta, our flight crew followed procedures to safely divert to Columbus due to an onboard customer medical situation."

The diversion delayed DL668 by approximately 90 minutes. After spending just under two hours on the ground in Columbus, the plane resumed its route at 10:37 and landed in San Francisco at 11:56, arriving one hour and 32 minutes behind schedule.

Delta applies the same flight number for both legs of this transcontinental service. Because of the delay arriving in San Francisco, the return flight also departed late—taking off more than three hours past its scheduled time but ultimately arriving back at JFK only slightly over two hours behind schedule.

Records indicate that N713TW, the aircraft involved in this incident, is a 28-year-old Boeing 757-200 that originally entered service with TWA in July 1997. It was later operated by American Airlines before joining Delta's fleet in November 2007.

A passenger reportedly assisted during the medical event and was offered an upgrade as thanks but declined.
