Delta Air Lines expands service with three new routes from Austin

Delta Air Lines has announced it will introduce three new routes from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) beginning in November. The airline, which designates Austin as a "focus city," will start nonstop service to Denver International Airport (DEN) on Nov. 9. Flights to John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) and Kansas City International Airport (MCI) are set to begin June 7, 2026. All three routes will use 76-seat Embraer E175 regional jets.

In addition to the new destinations, Delta plans to add a second daily flight from Austin to San Francisco International Airport (SFO) starting April 13, 2026. On the same day in June, the carrier will increase its service to Indianapolis International Airport (IND), moving from one daily flight to three.

Competition among airlines at AUS has been high since the pandemic, with several carriers increasing or reducing their number of routes in response to changing demand in the Texas capital. American Airlines expanded its seat capacity out of Austin significantly after 2019 but has since scaled back, while Southwest Airlines remains the airport’s largest operator by a wide margin. According to aviation analytics firm Cirium, Southwest is projected to fly about 6.1 million seats from AUS this year.

Delta has gradually increased its presence at Austin since designating it as a focus city following the pandemic. By the end of 2025, Delta expects to offer around 2.4 million seats from AUS—an increase of approximately 85% compared with pre-pandemic levels.

"Delta is building on a strong foundation in Austin and creating more ways for our customers to get where they want to go," said Paul Baldoni, senior vice president of network planning at Delta. "It's another step in delivering the network, convenience and premium experience that sets Delta apart as Austin's leading global carrier."

With these additions, Delta will serve 30 cities nonstop from Austin. Its partners Aeromexico, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, and WestJet also link AUS with international destinations including Mexico City, Amsterdam, and Calgary respectively.

Since 2024, Delta has added a total of 14 new routes from Austin according to Cirium data; however, not all have been successful. Service between Austin and Valley International Airport in Harlingen ended after eight months earlier this year; flights between Austin and Midland are scheduled to conclude this November after about eighteen months.

On many of these routes—including all three newly announced ones—Delta will face competition primarily from Southwest Airlines and also other carriers such as Frontier Airlines and United Airlines on flights to Denver.

The schedule for Delta’s new and expanded service includes:

- Twice daily AUS-DEN flights on E175s beginning Nov. 9.

- Twice daily AUS-SFO flights on Airbus A319s beginning April 13, 2026.

- Daily AUS-CMH flight on an E175 beginning June 7, 2026.

- Three daily AUS-IND flights on E175s starting June 7, 2026.

- Twice daily AUS-MCI flights on E175s starting June 7, 2026.
